Resistance and Resilience

Dear Friends & Supporters,

This week feels heavy. It might feel like too much even. It’s okay to not be okay. I both acknowledge and hold the real feelings of devastation and fear in our community close to my heart while simultaneously making sure I’m taking care of my own self. As an openly queer and transgender person in a state that has left us all very confused after this election cycle, it should come as no surprise that I am scared like many of you.

However, being scared doesn’t mean we give up. We’ve been here before. Regardless of election results, many of us know what it’s like to have to create support networks from nothing. Many of us understand that spaces like the LGBT Center of Raleigh exist as an act of resistance and resilience. While we carry on what our founders have created, we continue to adapt to what’s happening in the now and look ahead to the future.

The LGBT Center of Raleigh will continue to provide essential resources, services, and programs no matter the barriers we face. Our doors are open to all who need us, even if it’s just to take a few minutes to breathe. We will continue our mission to serve, empower, and advocate. Our support and dedication to the community is unwavering even in the most uncertain of times. Remember that you are not alone.

Today we grieve. Tomorrow we continue on.

In solidarity,

Kori Hennessey they/them

Executive Director
