With the transition to the new space at 324 South Harrington Street from our old storefront location on Hillsborough Street, we recognize the need for staff, volunteers, and visitors to understand the new parking configuration for the space. The situation is eerily similar to our old space:
Street Parking is available and should be utilized just as it was in our last space. A map below highlights spaces in orange showing where you can park. Street parking ranges from 30 minute spaces to 2 hour spaces.
Volunteers, while staffing the Center, will have access to dedicated parking behind the Center. These spaces require a parking permit that is available at the front desk and must be returned before your shift is complete so that the next volunteer will have parking privileges.
Special Events that occur during the week after 6pm (Monday-Thursday) and most of the time on weekends, you may park in the back gravel lot behind the Center. You will not be towed during these times. Please be sure to tell the attendant that you are "Going to an event at the LGBT Center." They will smile and point to an available parking space for you.
Unless otherwise advised by James or Kelly, no one is to park in the back lot without a parking pass or outside of the designated times above. The Center is not responsible for your vehicle or fines/impoundment fees that result in deviation from these guidelines.
Our old space ONLY had street parking, but we were lucky that the city did not enforce the time limits. They will enforce them here. Just because we were blessed in the last space does not mean we should or can have the same privileges here. Please plan accordingly!
